Mission Statement
Etobicoke Musical Productions is a not-for-profit, community organization. We strive to provide our members with opportunities to perform, direct, choreograph, produce, and design quality music theatre. In doing so it is our mission to enrich the lives of our members and patrons by fostering a love of the performing arts while providing an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
Our Productions
EMP’s members, though amateur in status, have built up professional expertise in all things theatrical, both on stage and behind the scenes. It is this acknowledged dedication that has drawn many ‘out-of-towners’ to swell the local audience to approximately 3,500 per production. Etobicoke Musical Productions prides itself on achieving professional quality productions by true amateurs.
A Brief History
EMP evolved out of the enthusiasm and energy of a small group of people with a shared passion – musical theatre. Under the name of York Peel Music Society their first production, Oklahoma!, was staged in the Spring of 1966. By the Fall of 1968 the Group’s name was changed to The Etobicoke Light Opera Company to acknowledge the growing membership from Etobicoke.
Our Theatre
EMP’s Fall shows are held at Meadowvale Theatre.
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the lands which constitute the present-day City of Mississauga as being part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and The Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations. We recognize these peoples and their ancestors as peoples who inhabited this location since time immemorial and we are grateful to perform at the Meadowvale Theatre, which is located on these lands. We also acknowledge that Etobicoke is covered by Treaty 13 (also known as the Toronto Purchase) with the Mississaugas of the Credit.
